S/mileage – Yume Miru 15sai

Hello!Project’s newest group finally makes their debut release with Yume Miru 15sai. As it should be, it’s their most unique and interesting song yet. They dropped their typical cute/anime sound for something a little more typical H!P these days, synthpop. The a-side sounds like something Tsunku would make for Momusu but not as good. Reminds me like a combination of Naichau Kamo and Kimagure Princess. I enjoyed it, but the vocals made it slightly uninteresting for me since they all have similar, high pitched voices.
Of course the b-side had to mess everything up. Thank You! Crème Brûlée no Yuujou is one of the slightly better recent b-sides from Tsunku, although it’s a step back into their cuter style with grating vocals. At least the chorus is pretty catchy and I thought the solos were well done.
Overall I’m pleased with this single. Tsunku tried to make something different for them, which is commendable. My only complaint are the girl’s vocals. I’m sure as they get older their voices will change and become a lot more interesting.
