Girls’ Generation – Run Devil Run

Making a complete 360 from their Oh! concept, SNSD is back with Run Devil Run. Could you say that it’s on the same boat as Show! Show! Show!? Possibly. This track is a lot more “sexier” and not as pop-dance. In fact, the instrumental is VERY limited and basic; just a bunch of layered beats and vocals. The song grew on me however, since I found it pretty underwhelming at the beginning, but once you get past the sub-par instrumental and long verses, the song is really great.

Echo is another track that acts as filler material in the album. It takes the cuter concept this time around and has a simple but nice chorus, even though the song overall is weak and the same as every other pop song on the album.

The Acoustic R&B version of Star Star Star (☆★☆) is strangely familiar to the original. The only difference is the addition of strings and R&B beats throughout the entire song. So with that, it loses the whole “epic Star Star Star” essence that I think made the song so great and instead adds onto the “easy-listening” factor. Even so, still a great variation of the original.

I would have liked to see more new tracks, but even so, quality is always better than quantity. Minus the generic Echo, the other two tracks were a welcome addition, even if the track ordering took a bit of a blow.
