Ayumi Covers Gone Wrong

Queen of J-Pop she may be(or not, does it really matter anymore?), Ayu is known for her interesting covers, to say the least. She generally has pretty covers but she sometimes likes to throw in either the fish lips+bug eyed combo or the recently acquired ~monkey~ face.

In this post you will see five more Ayu covers never before released to the public…

Originally, Ayu had a totally different concept when first shooting the Sunrise / Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~ single covers. She wanted to express her ~tropical~ side so she chose a unique location on the African continent and took a stunning photo. Unfortunately, her production team wasn’t very pleased with the end results and thus photoshop’d a generic background over the original image.

At least her face still expresses her original idea.

RAINBOW, the forgotten Ayumi album, was Ayu’s first attempt at making her own cover art. Nervous, she sort-of overdid the whole “underwater” theme and thus the pros had to step in and clear it out a bit. Once again, her face maintains her original concept.

On the first press copies of her fabulous I am… album there was an error in the production line in which a booklet image that didn’t make it into the final product was included for fans to see.

This photo was shot before she decided to change the concept to something more peaceful(in response to 9/11).

While Ayu’s favorite photo editor was hard at work on her ~simple~ A BEST 2 covers, Ayu had a tantrum, yelling at the poor guy who had only multiplied her eye-size by 5 instead of the usual 8 times. Ayumi left the editing room and the editor, upset and surprised over Ayu’s reaction totally trolled up her cover and included his two favorite artists to boot~

We usually never see Ayu’s profile, and that’s for a reason. In her 2005 single HEAVEN, Ayu took her first profile photo shoot. Of course, heavy editing was needed but we’ve been able to acquire the original, unedited version! No wonder her covers are always from the front…
