After School – Bang!
Opening up the single is the very powerful Let’s Do It!. The song is void of any singing(except some random rapping and shouting in the background) but is instead a full blown drum pounding track with blaring brass. I think it’s the perfect track to lead into the title song and is short but very very sweet.
I wasn’t a big fan of Bang! when I first got my hands on it since it was(and still is) VERY messy. While it is nice not to see a K-Pop song with the typical verse-bridge-chorus arrangement, this track just felt very sloppy when reaching the chorus. Even so, the girls are as charismatic as ever(something that I find them to do better than any other group) and the shouting chorus with the fierce brass and instrumental are truly something new, fresh and enjoyable.
Like in their prior releases, the single features a ballad. Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of With U since it really bores the heck out of me. As I’ve said before, it’s really hard for me to like a K-Pop ballad unless it has something distinctive to it, but not even After School’s superb vocalists can make me interested in this droopy, acoustic ballad.
Minus that dreaded ballad, I LOVED this single. After School hasn’t disappointed me with a title track so far(almost no K-Pop groups have) and it’s good to know that even with one new member, the girls still have their fierce and mature sound intact.
